Much like an ID card, your user account identifies you as an individual to the technical systems that provide you with the University of Oldenburg’s IT services. Your user account grants you access to precisely those systems and services that the University makes available to you in your specific role. To access all available systems and services, you simply need this single account ID (consisting of four letters followed by four digits), your personal password and a second factor for authentication (2FA).

Activate your user account

The following user accounts are available

• University members (students, staff, lecturers): IT services automatically set up a personal user account to access the University of Oldenburg’s digital resources.
  University members
• Guests: Staff members can request that a user account be set up for their guests.
  Guest account
• Projects, departments: To obtain a dedicated email address not linked to a specific individual, a functional account can be set up.
  Functional account
• Course account: You can obtain a course account to use computer rooms as part of your courses.

Managing your accounts

There, you can also transfer these accounts to other university staff members so that they will be responsible for them in future. This is necessary, for example, if you are due to leave the university soon but your guests will continue to work for the university and should retain the account.
If you do not transfer the host role to another person employed by the university, the guest account cannot be used permanently. The new person responsible must agree to the transfer during the process.

Validity period of passwords

Following a decision by our Presidential Board, passwords are valid indefinitely.
