Accreditation
Degree programmes have been accredited since 2002. The accreditation process assesses quality criteria and compliance with European standards and the formal requirements set by the KMK and the state.
The Lower Saxony Higher Education Act stipulates that “degree programmes must be accredited and re-accredited in accordance with the State Treaty on the Accreditation of Degree Programmes of 1/20 June 2017 (Nds. Law and Official Gazette p. 290), as amended, and the regulations issued on the basis thereof [...].“ (NHG §6, para. 2, sentence 2).
Since 2008, alongside the accreditation of degree programmes (programme accreditation), there has also been system accreditationhas existed. This involves the assessment of the institution’s internal quality assurance systems. System accreditation confirms that the institution’s internal quality assurance in the area of study and teaching is suitable for ensuring the quality of degree programmes and compliance with formal requirements.
Previously, the University’s degree programmes were assessed and accredited by agencies as part of what is known as programme accreditation. In order to take responsibility for ensuring the quality of its degree programmes itself in future, the university decided at the end of 2018 to apply for system accreditation. With a few exceptions, such as joint degree programmes with other higher education institutions, degree programmes will in future be accredited under the new system.
The university was awarded the system accreditation seal at the end of September 2023 without any conditions. It is valid for eight years.
