The University’s Presidential Board will soon have six members instead of five. The Vice Presidents Katharina Al-Shamery and Ralf Grüttemeier are to be succeeded by Gun-Britt Kohler, Michael Wark and Matthias Wendland.

In 1976, the state government adopted a drastic austerity programme. This threatened the very existence of the fledgling University of Oldenburg. How could they make their voices heard? Around 1,100 members of the university community protested by cycling all the way to Hanover.

The university's Senate and Council have voted to appoint President Ralph Bruder to a second term ahead of schedule without a public call for tender. Falko Mohrs, Minister for Science, described this as a “convincing sign of confidence”.

The university establishes an endowed professorship for Economics Education, endowed by the entrepreneur Ernst Eugen Esch. The aim is to strengthen the training of economics teachers and research into economic didactics.

More than 100 researchers from the universities of Oldenburg, Bremen, and Groningen gathered in Oldenburg to exchange ideas about their future cooperation in the Northwest Alliance.

The heads of the city and university drew a positive interim balance at the annual meeting. The co-operation will focus on the start of construction of the medical campus in 2026 and the promotion of new medical start-ups.

An international initiative aims to raise awareness of the fact that rankings do not capture all of an institution's strengths. Now, the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen have joined the initiative together.

The universities of Bremen and Oldenburg want to move into the future as a University Excellence Consortium. The two universities submitted their letter of intent to the German Science and Humanities Council today.

All three top research projects that applied in the Excellence Competition have been approved. The Clusters of Excellence Hearing4all, NaviSense and OceanFloor focus on hearing research, animal navigation and marine research.

The University of Oldenburg is receiving 22.5 million from the state of Lower Saxony for its "Programme for Excellence". Among other things, the university wants to use this to strengthen the dialogue between the humanities, social sciences and natural sciences.

The universities of Oldenburg and Bremen are jointly establishing the “Northwest Alliance.” A memorandum of understanding was signed by the university administrations and the heads of the Bremen and Lower Saxony science departments in Berlin.

Northwest Lower Saxony and Bremen have been shortlisted in the "Startup Factories" competition organised by the BMWK under the auspices of the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen. The concept was presented at an event in the Weser Stadium.
