55,000 volumes and another reading room add to the university library's offerings

Whether books on church history or theological reference works: students, researchers and other interested parties with a university library card can now also use the library of the Oberkirchenrat in Philosophenweg.

Whether books on regional church history or theological reference works: since mid-March, students, researchers and other interested parties with a university library card can also use the library of the Oberkirchenrat in Philosophenweg.

The library of the Oberkirchenrat with 55,000 volumes has recently become accessible to university users once a week on Thursdays from 2.00 to 5.00 pm. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oldenburg has given the holdings of the Theological Library on permanent loan to the University's Library and Information System (BIS) and the Institute of Theology and Religious Education.

The extensive collection includes a wide range of literature on regional church history. Interested parties can use a reading room with relevant reference works and scientific literature. In addition, various Bibles, hymn books as well as sermon and teaching aids are available. Research is possible online (via ORBISplus), where books can also be ordered for loan. Books can then be borrowed and returned at Philosophenweg 1.

The reading room there has been remodelled into a learning space where individual or group work is easily possible. It is also suitable for smaller seminars, readings or other events. To use the library of the Oberkirchenrat, a valid CampusCard or a valid university library card - available from the central or departmental library on campus - is required.

It took almost four years of preparatory work by the Oberkirchenrat, University Library and Institute to integrate this special location into the university's library and information system. Oldenburg Bishop Thomas Adomeit, University President Prof. Dr Ralph Bruder and Institute Director Prof. Dr Ulrike Sallandt recently finalised the project by signing the contract on the premises of the University Library.
