The international DAAD Alumni Summer School "Corporate Environmental Management Information Systems and Sustainable Development" started on Saturday, 14 April at the University of Oldenburg.

The 25 participants from 21 nations will be welcomed today at 5.30 pm by Oldenburg's Lord Mayor Prof Dr Gerd Schwandner in the main conference room of the Old Town Hall (Markt 1). The Summer School of the Department of Information Systems / Very Large Business Applications under the direction of Prof. Dr. Jorge Marx Gómez, Professor of Information Systems, is taking place at the university until Sunday, 22 April.

The Summer School is attended by people from so-called developing and emerging countries who work in the environmental sector, sustainability development and in educational institutions, development organisations, NGOs or private companies. The conference will focus on environmental information systems (BUIS), business environmental informatics, sustainable development and IT for Green. Lectures and network meetings are intended to promote exchange between participants and strengthen international scientific co-operation. The aim is to form research co-operations on green technology, IT efficiency and environmental information systems. The Summer School programme includes a tour of the CEWE Color plant. The Oldenburg-based company is supporting the conference financially.

Following the Summer School in Oldenburg, the participants will visit the "Hannover Messe" until 26 April. The visit to the "Hannover Messe" is organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
