On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Oldenburg Centre for Dutch Studies, a closed international symposium entitled "Een of twee Nederlands literaturen? Contacten tussen de Nederlandse en Vlaamse literatuur sinds 1830", a closed international symposium was held at the University of Oldenburg on 7 December 2006. The conference was introduced by a public event the evening before.

After a welcoming address by Prof. em. Dr. Frans Bulhof, who taught at the University of Oldenburg for many years, the Oldenburg lecturer Dr. Johannes Beelen gave the lecture "Wie Vondel durch Oldenburg reiste. 25 years of university Dutch studies at the University of Oldenburg". Dr Esther Ruigendijk, Junior Professor of Dutch Linguistics at the university, then spoke about "The future of international Dutch studies: without borders!" (6 December, 8 p.m., Lecture Centre, Senate Meeting Room A14-111). During the non-public part of the event on 7 December, a closed circle of participants from the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany discussed various aspects of the development of Dutch and Flemish literature since 1830.

The conference, which was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), was organised by the Dutch scholars Prof. Dr Ralf Grüttemeier and Dr Jan Oosterholt.
