Brief portrait of Oldenburg's Dutch Studies programme
Located close to the border, the University of Oldenburg is home to one of the best-equipped departments of Dutch Studies in Germany. Oldenburg's Dutch Studies department offers Bachelor's/Master's degrees as well as Master's and teaching degree programmes, which are now being phased out, and focuses on international comparison and cooperation with other disciplines in its research and teaching.
Anyone studying Dutch in Oldenburg first learns the language - in small courses with experienced and motivated lecturers who are all native speakers of Dutch. The language training is part of a clearly structured, tightly organised basic curriculum in which all students learn about the society and culture of the Netherlands and Flanders as well as linguistics and literature.
Extensive freedom of choice in the consecutive curriculum ensures that you can combine a solid basic education with your own interests. Interest in modern literature and/or linguistics is catered for at a high level in the consecutive curriculum, with both newer theory-based questions and classic topics and texts such as Dutch literary and linguistic history being offered. Practical elements such as the preparation of exhibitions, readings, excursions or translations are often included in the teaching. It is also possible to specialise in social sciences, economics and Law in the consecutive curriculum.
The Dutch Department is housed in the university's
