Canada – From coast to coast

Canada is one of the most popular destinations for a semester abroad – and for good reason: the world’s second-largest country captivates visitors with its diversity of nature, cultures and high-quality educational institutions. With a population of around 40 million, Canada is relatively sparsely populated. The population is concentrated mainly along the US border and in major cities such as Calgary, Montréal, Toronto and Vancouver.

Canada looks back on a rich and varied history – from its Indigenous peoples, through colonisation by France and Britain, to today’s multicultural society. This cultural richness is still evident today and shapes how people live together in the country.

The country comprises ten provinces and three territories, each with its own cultural characteristics – from the French-influenced regions of Québec to the Indigenous communities in the far north. English and French are the two official languages, although you can get by fine with English in most parts of the country.

The Canadian higher education system is highly regarded internationally. Universities are practice-oriented, well-equipped with modern facilities and encourage independent study.
