Ethical self-image of the Institute of Educational Sciences
To put it in context: In almost all universities, organisations, companies and other institutions, as well as conferences and workshops, there are moments when people are not treated in a way that many take for granted. This is why more and more players are developing "codes of conduct" or "ethical mission statements" that reflect their attitude and posting them online. We (the members and students) want to realise a discrimination-sensitive space. In principle, this document is a declaration of solidarity.
The Institute of Educational Sciences sees itself as a place of shared learning, research and critical reflection. We promote an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment based on mutual trust, openness and dialogue.
Important to us are
- Respect and appreciation
- Diversity is seen as a strength. We create the time resources to allow different perspectives to enrich our work.
- Everyone at the Institute of Educational Sciences treats all members of the community - students, teaching staff, administration and other employees - with respect. #ChartLeaderDiversity
- We show solidarity with people who experience discrimination.
- Open dialogue
- Those involved strive for a culture of communication in which all voices are heard and opinions are taken seriously.
- Controversial disputes are part of this.
- We allow people to try things out, even on sensitive topics. This should be done as constructively, objectively, respectfully, non-violently and favourably as possible.
- Equal rights and responsibility
- All students and members of the Institute have the right to contribute their ideas and input.
- Power structures and privileges are reflected upon and, where necessary, explicitly addressed and taken up.
- Sustainability and responsibility
- All of us at the Institute strive to use resources responsibly and are aware of the social, ecological and ethical impact of our actions.
- Proportionality is taken into account.
- Cooperation and solidarity
- Collegiality and mutual support are at the centre of our cooperation.
- Conflicts and overstepping boundaries can and should be addressed openly and in a solution-orientated manner. Mistakes are seen as learning opportunities.
Members and students of the Institute respect this ethical self-image and actively contribute to its implementation. Violations of the principles are taken seriously and dealt with in dialogue.
This document is a living instrument and is regularly discussed (e.g. at the Institute Assembly) and updated to reflect the needs and values of the Institute of Educational Sciences at Carl von Ossietzky University.
