Exercises in Commercial and Company Law

At the University of Oldenburg, a two-hour introductory course on commercial and company law, accompanied by seminars, is held each summer semester. In this context, the book ‘Exercises in Commercial and Company Law’ has been published. This compilation of various case studies aims to illustrate the systematic interrelationships between issues in commercial and company law. Using relevant factual scenarios as examples, a number of fundamental legal issues are addressed and presented in the form of legal case studies. To illustrate the methodology of case analysis, the relevant issues have not only been dealt with in brief outline solutions, but in some cases have also been prepared and formulated in a manner suitable for examination papers. The case study handbook is primarily aimed at students of the introductory course in Commercial and Company Law, in whose seminar sessions accompanying the lectures the legal problems and solutions of the cases are dealt with in greater detail. For students on the advanced course (‘Advanced Commercial Law’), the cases may also serve as a revision of the fundamental legal issues. It does not claim to be a textbook or to be exhaustive. Rather, the topics covered here are intended to serve as a stimulus for self-study at home or in the library and to help students check what they have learnt.
