Volume 9
Environmental Law
Meyerholt
This volume is an extension and new version of the originally only general part of environmental law <nobr>(Volume 3).</nobr> The addition of environmental law BT proved to be necessary in order to continue to fulfil its function as a workbook. Environmental law is currently (2005) in a phase of upheaval, as the environmental issue has passed its zenith. The topic has lost importance among the population and the statistics show a declining interest among the population. As a result, legal policy has turned its attention to other projects and preparatory work on a comprehensive codification of environmental law (Environmental Code ⇔ UGB) has come to a standstill. The UGB project had already been underway for several years, but in view of the complexity of our legal system and the widespread reluctance to make far-reaching structural changes, there is nothing new to report. Despite the decline in interest, environmental law is now largely established, both as a field of law at universities and universities of applied sciences and as an important field of action for companies. Whereas environmental protection used to be neglected in production theory, today it represents a multifaceted field of action. While at a national level there are some calls for the dismantling of corporate environmental protection in order to counter the consequences of globalisation, the European legal community is introducing new legal provisions into the national legal system, especially for companies and businesses.
