Conceptual orientation

The inclusive Competence Center for joint, holistic developmental support in childhood, adolescence and adulthood combines various support and research projects as part of the Institute of Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation. The areas of applied research, practical teaching and regional networking in the context of psychomotor development support at the inclusive Competence Center operate independently and at the same time together. The intersection of the different areas is a multi-perspective concept that focuses on movement and perception-orientated services. The connection between the different fields of activity offers numerous potentials for practice, teaching and research. Cooperative relationships with daycare centres, inclusive schools and support centers in Oldenburg make it possible to transfer scientific findings into practice and to gain an insight into practical implementation as part of the courses.

We understand psychomotor development support as a resource-, perception- and movement-orientated offer, in which the individual expansion of independence, action competence and communication skills are supported through physical, material and social experiences. An appreciative relationship, psychomotor dialogue (Eckert 2004, 62ff) and immanent reflection are essential elements of the educational or therapeutic support. This is because "the therapeutic relationship is not merely a framework in whose protected atmosphere developmental support can take place, but the relationship itself becomes the instrument that sets the therapeutic process in motion, drives it forward and shapes it" (Amft et al., 2012, p. 115). The practical implementation of psychomotor development support is based on the following basic principles (Keßel 2014, p. 24ff): Authenticity and appreciation, dialogue and support, avoidance of evaluation, development orientation, experience orientation, voluntariness, holistic approach, action orientation, child orientation, communication orientation, process orientation, resource orientation, structuring.
