General information from the team on the supervision of thesis

Dear students,

we would like to provide you with some general information on the supervision of academic thesis in the "Pedagogy and didactics for intellectual development impairments with special consideration of inclusive educational processes" team.

Formal organisation of your thesis

Firstly, we would like to point out that all questions regarding formalities can be answered by carefully studying the blue reader can be clarified. If questions cannot be clarified via the reader, we hereby expressly encourage you to make competent and independent decisions in this regard. We also recommend that you pay attention to the consistency of your scientific design.

Field access and data management for empirical work

If you are planning a survey in schools for your empirical thesis, please ensure that you prepare the necessary steps early on and independently. At the beginning of your work, please check whether you need or are aiming for a so-called small or large-scale procedure. It may be necessary to submit a proposal to the RLSB for a major procedure. Further information can be found at DIZ in the documents on the orientation framework.

You are also responsible for obtaining the informed consent of those involved in empirical work that does not require access to schools. You are welcome to use existing templates (e.g. declarations of consent) as a guide or modify them on your own responsibility. You can also find corresponding templates in the documents on the orientation framework (small or large procedure). You are responsible for preparing field access and data collection. The implementation and data management are the responsibility of the students. Please understand that we cannot also use the supervision time to correct your cover letters, consent forms, etc. An exception (if actually necessary) are proposals to the Ethics Committee, which can only be submitted via the first reviewer.

Counselling and consultation appointments

You are welcome to use the consultation appointments to discuss the results even after the data collection has been completed. It helps to prepare the appointments with your supervisors accordingly (you are welcome to provide us with drafts of guidelines, excerpts from your data, etc. by email in advance of the office hours) in order to concentrate on a professional exchange (not formalities, general examination matters, etc. see above). We are genuinely interested in what you have found out, which sources were informative for you and which questions, theses, theories etc. arise from your discussions.

Timing

Please refrain from requests that should motivate or urge us teachers to shorten the processing time. No matter how understandable your individual concerns and requests may be (traineeship, life planning, etc.): Calculate with the specified correction times according to the examination regulations for us supervisors and please take these into account in your individual time planning.

We look forward to your exciting theses and lively discussions.

The team of Pedagogy and Didactics for Intellectual Development Impairments with Special Consideration of Inclusive Educational Processes

Information on supervision by Prof. Dr. Teresa Sansour

Choice of topic & methodological approach

In line with the focus of my professorship, I supervise Bachelor's and Master's thesis (here Master of Education) on the following topics:

  • People with so-called intellectual disabilities, complex disabilities or autism

  • Questions of participation in various areas and phases of life in relation to the above-mentioned groups of people

  • (subject-related) didactic issues with regard to the above-mentioned groups of people, but also with regard to inclusion

  • Questions on pedagogical interactions in the context of the above-mentioned groups of people

Further topics are only possible in exceptional cases and if capacities are not yet exhausted.

Literature-based analyses (e.g. in the form of systematic reviews) or empirical (qualitative) work using observation methods (preferably ethnography) or interview methods are possible. Reconstructive approaches such as grounded theory are also welcome (especially for MA theses). I would be happy to advise you here; we also offer interpretation groups. I can only support other study designs or approaches as a secondary counsellor.

Counselling process/ Appointments/ Availability

After an initial clarification as to whether I can supervise your work, which is usually done by email, you can register for my office hours via StudIP. Please understand that I cannot arrange individual appointments if you are unable to attend during my office hours. Please refrain from making such requests. In the event that you are unable to attend my office hours (online or in person), you have the option of calling me "on the off chance" or knocking directly on my office door. If I am not in an appointment, we can talk about your concerns. If your request is not too complex, you are also welcome to ask counselling questions by email.

Handing in the work

I only need the thesis in digital form and will then receive it automatically from the Examinations Office. You do not need to hand in a printed version.
