Current publication of the Federal Institute for Sport Science: Right-wing extremism in sport - state of knowledge - gaps - dangers by Robert Claus and Sabine Behn.
This explorative study is an update of the state of knowledge from 2009. At that time, Gunter A. Pilz, Sabine Behn, Erika Harzer, Heinz Lynen von Berg and Nicole Selmer published the study "Rechtsextremismus im Sport - in Deutschland und im internationalen Vergleich" (Pilz et al., 2009), which was reissued in an updated version in 2014 (this. 2014). A lot has happened since then: Social media has gained enormous relevance, and the extreme right-wing scene and political discourse in Germany have evolved.
Consequently, the aim of this exploratory study is to update the state of knowledge at the time and provide an overview of the organisations, strategies and activities of extreme right-wing actors in sport. To this end, the current state of research was reviewed, surveys were conducted with sports associations and interviews were held with experts in the field, and intensive research and analyses of extreme right-wing sources were carried out.
