Taster day for individuals
Event types
The taster programme is part of the regular teaching programme. It is therefore perfectly normal if you are only able to follow the content to a limited extent.
The following types are available:
lecture
A course in the form of a lecture that provides an overview of a specific subject area. Lectures are often delivered to large groups of students (up to several hundred).
Seminar
In a seminar, a specific topic is explored in a small group under the guidance of a lecturer. The seminar is characterised by the students’ active participation in the content through discussions or, for example, presentations on specific issues (guests are, of course, under no obligation to do this!).
Tutorial
A teaching session, usually in a smaller group, designed to consolidate the material covered in a lecture or, in some subjects, to work through practice exercises.
tutorial
In a tutorial, students, together with a tutor – usually a student in a higher semester – revise and consolidate the material covered in a course (lecture, seminar or practical).

Taster day for individuals

What is it actually like to study at the University of Oldenburg? How do lectures and seminars work? What is the campus like? What advice do students have for new students?
Prospective students can find answers to these and other questions at the Taster day.
During the taster day, participants have the opportunity to spend a day getting to know the University of Oldenburg, chatting to others and getting a taste of regular lectures and seminars.
For those interested in teacher training, a special Taster day tailored to this programme is offered.
The taster days are held during term time (summer semester: April to July; winter semester: October to January).
Overall, I really enjoyed the day. I found the programme in particular to be extremely varied. I thought it was very good that a lot of consideration was given to individual interests, both in the lecture and in the free choice of courses. I also found the opportunity to make direct contact with students in the Q&A session very helpful.
Dates and registration
It will not be possible to take part in the Taster day again until the 2026/2027 winter semester. The dates are expected to be published here in October.

I liked the mixture of authentic/genuine events to get a taste of the programme and specific events for us prospective students. I was also happy to have the chance to look at course formats other than a lecture.
