Biography

Prof. Dr Thomas Alkemeyer is a university professor of sociology and sports sociology and director of the "Genealogy of the Present" research centre at the University of Oldenburg. He studied sports science and German studies with a minor in philosophy and educational science at the Free University of Berlin, where he received his doctorate in 1994, habilitated in 2000 at the Department of Educational Science and Psychology at the Free University of Berlin, was a professor invité at the "Centre de Sociologie des Pratiques et des Représentations Politiques (CSPRP)" of the Université Denis Diderot - Paris 7 in 2010 and worked from 2010 to 2019 as spokesperson for the Oldenburg DFG Research Training Group "Selbst-Bildungen. Practices of Subjectivation in Historical and Interdisciplinary Perspective".
