Centre for Teacher Training - Didactic Centre (DiZ)

The Centre for Teacher Education - Didactic Centre (DiZ) is a cross-faculty academic centre at the University of Oldenburg. Members and affiliates of the centre are the stakeholders in teacher training in Oldenburg.
The regulations of the centre define the affiliation of the persons. The Centre's bodies and committees are the Board of Directors, the Commission for Teacher Education (KLB), the Council for Research, the Council for Teaching and the Centre Assembly. The Centre is divided into the fields of activity professional field, teaching and research. It performs conceptual and coordinating cross-subject and cross-faculty tasks in teacher training, school development, knowledge transfer, teacher training-related research and quality assurance.
The OFZ - Lehrkräftefortbildung am Centre of Excellence Oldenburg is part of the Didactic Centre.
Mourning for Prof Dr Dr h.c. Hilbert Meyer: Together with the Institute of Educational Sciences, a book of condolences will be available in the foyer of the DiZ office (near room A4-1-124) from 5 January to 9 February 2026. Digital condolences can be sent to and will be handed over to the family with the book of condolence in mid-February.
33rd School Management Conference on 19 March 2026
"Utilising freedom: School development in a changing society"
On Thursday, 19 March 2026, 08:30 - 14:30, the 33rd School Management Conference will take place under the motto "Using freedom: School development in social change" . Following the opening lecture by Prof Dr Aladin El-Mafaalani (Dortmund University of Technology), this year's school management conference will offer practical impulses from research and practice to shape everyday school life for the benefit of all those involved. The conference will take place in the lecture theatre centre of the University of Oldenburg. Registration will open on 23 January 2026.

Democracy Camp Oldenburg - For pupils and teachers
On 11 March 2026, the OFZ is offering a democracy camp for pupils and teachers. The democracy camp offers interactive and age-appropriate workshops in which everyone can actively participate - be it in group work, discussions or creative projects. Pupils discover how they can make their voice heard and help shape their environment. Teachers receive valuable impulses to strengthen democracy education in the classroom. M.Ed. graduation ceremony on 05 December 2025
On 5 December 2025, 130 graduates of the Master of Education for GHR, Gym and SoPäd were ceremoniously presented with their degree certificates. Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind, Vice President for Studies and Teaching, and Prof. Dr Teresa Sansour, Vice Director for Teaching at the Centre for Teacher Education - Didactic Centre (DiZ), gave the welcoming speeches. Nils Prior, graduate of the M. Ed. Gymnasium, gave a special speech with an impressive and inspiring science slam presentation for the future teachers. The ceremony was accompanied by music from the band Nouvel Amour. more
University celebrates 80 years of academic teacher training
The founding of the Pädagogische Akademie Oldenburg on 1 October 1945 marked the beginning of academic training for primary school teachers in Germany. 80 years later, it is the historical nucleus of the university, which is still characterised today by its comprehensive teacher training - with 28 subjects and around 40 % students in the teaching profession. more

An online information event on the topic of internships abroad will take place on 05.11..2025, 12-14h. DiZ committees and DiZ Board of Directors newly elected
The DiZ committee elections for the 2-year term of office were held successfully. The joint constituent meeting of all committees took place on 2 April 2025 and concluded with the election of the new Board of Directors. more

School management conference 2024:
"Young generation - different? School - different!"
What are the needs of the younger generation? What demands are placed on schools and teaching in this context? On Thursday, 14 March 2024, two keynote speeches will provide an introduction to the relevant background and take an inspiring look at the motives and needs of the new generation with regard to learning and working at school. Afterwards, the conference programme will offer individual in-depth opportunities in parallel impulse sessions.

Workshop: Interdisciplinary research into language-conscious subject teaching
On Wed, 06.12.2023, a workshop on the topic of "Interdisciplinary research into language-aware subject teaching" will take place at Oldenburg Youth Hostel. The aim of the event is interdisciplinary networking and co-operation in research projects in the areas of language-aware subject teaching and support for language-sensitive teaching and learning. The workshop is organised by the research cluster "Language-aware subject teaching / language-sensitive teaching and learning" and supported by OLE+ and the DiZ Research Academy. more

New publication on didactic reconstruction
In summer 2018 and autumn 2021, two workshops on the Model of Didactic Reconstruction (MDR) took place in Zurich and Oldenburg. A report volume, edited by Prof Dr Michael Komorek and Dr Kai Bliesmer, has now been published, which proves that the model is excellently suited as a didactic approach for current educational tasks" more

Under the title "Teacher Education 2040: Dimensions of the Professionalisation of Teachers from an Interdisciplinary Perspective. GINT conference proceedings published
The proceedings of the research conference "Exploring and developing places and processes of extracurricular learning", which took place at the University of Oldenburg in August 2018, have been published. At the centre of the conference was research into non-formal and extracurricular learning (both in STEM subjects and in the humanities and social sciences). This conference was the sixth volume in a series on extracurricular learning spaces organised by the Lucerne University of Teacher Education and this time jointly organised by the doctoral programme and research network "STEM Learning in Informal Spaces" (GINT) in co-operation with the Lucerne University of Teacher Education.
New project: Inclusive teaching and learning settings in subject teaching
As part of the Higher Education Pact 2020 funding programme "Innovative Teaching and Learning Concepts: Innovation Plus", a new project has been approved for the Oldenburg teacher training programme: "Inclusive teaching and learning settings in subject teaching" (ILLSU). AHOI_MINT - We hoist the sails!
The aim of the AHOI_MINT project is to give young people aged 10 to 16 in north-west Lower Saxony access to exciting programmes in the fields of mathematics, computing science, natural sciences and technology. It is largely supported by the network partners University of Oldenburg, Forschungszentrum NordWest für Schülerinnen und Schüler e. V., Landesmuseum Natur und Mensch Oldenburg and OFFIS e. DAAD promotes exchange with partner universities in South Africa and the Netherlands
Enabling student teachers to gain more international experience - this is the aim of a project at the University of Oldenburg, which the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) is funding over the next three years. The university is cooperating with the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands) and the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth (South Africa). Funding totalling around 470,000 euros was requested for the project entitled "Dimensions of Diversity in Teacher Education: A Trilateral Conversation". The programme is aimed at student teachers in the subjects of education, special education, music, chemistry, German studies, English studies and Dutch studies. Other disciplines are to be added in the course of the project. From 2020, students from all three participating universities will be able to take part in exchange programmes and joint summer academies, complete school internships in one of the three countries and carry out joint studies on lesson planning at German and Dutch partner schools.
