VISUAL MIGRATIONS - PICTURES IN MOTION
Vernissage

More information:

From 9 - 15 July 2011, the members of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Oldenburg, Dr. Kerstin Brandes and Caroline Schubarth, in collaboration with the artists and scientists collective Eurozentrika, will be showing the exhibition "Visual Migrations - Images in Motion" in the project space LEAP (Berlin).

Based on the current debates about a "European identity", the interdisciplinary art and research project examines media constructions and image politics that aim to define images and their meanings. The exhibition project aims to create a space for new models of critical-artistic collaboration in order to intervene in normative discourses about the self and the other and to open up unexpected perspectives.

The starting point for the exhibition was an image and text collage that EUROZENTRIKA created for the magazine FKW // Zeitschrift für Geschlechterforschung und visuelle Kultur, which is now being transferred to the LEAP project space and installed there as a 3D collage. Since the first draft of the collage, it has been continuously expanded by international artists and scientists to include artworks, texts, found objects and notes. These include Ketuta Alexi-Meskhisvilli, Michaela Eichwald, Azin Feizabadi, Helena Huneke, Prof Dr Linda Hentschel, Melissa Logan, Sophia Martinek, Michaela Melián, Henrik Olesen, Tanja Ostojić, dasFlair, Reto Pulfer, Roseline Rannoch, Prof Dr Claudia Reiche, Prof Dr Judith Siegmund, Shingo Yoshida, Susanne Winterling, Moira Zoitl and others. The result, a room-filling installation, will be presented in the exhibition "Visual Migrations - Images in Motion".

The exhibition is sponsored by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Oldenburg, among others.

09 - 15 July 2011, LEAP, Berlin, Alexanderplatz, Karl-Liebknechtstr. 13
