Publications

Through the publication of two series, the ZFG regularly supports the publication of new research findings in the field of gender studies, thereby playing an active role in academic discourse and fostering links with non-academic practice. In line with the ZFG’s mission, both series are interdisciplinary in nature and comprise contributions from various academic disciplines employing a variety of methodological approaches. In particular, through its role as publisher, the ZFG also promotes the work of early-career researchers.

Studies in Interdisciplinary Gender Research

In autumn 2002, a joint series was launched by the Centre for Interdisciplinary Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Oldenburg (ZFG) and the Centre for Gender Studies at the University of Bremen (ZGS), initially published by Leske & Budrich, then by VS-Verlag für Sozialwissenschaften, and since 2009 by transcript-Verlag in Bielefeld, under the title *

: Studies in Interdisciplinary Gender Research*.

The global transformations in gender relations and the meanings attributed to ‘gender’ reveal contradictory developments, continuities and shifts. The changes to old lines of segmentation and the emergence of new ones exist in a complex relationship of tension with one another.

The ‘Studies in Interdisciplinary Gender Research’ series regularly presents recent research in this field. It takes account of the wide range of possible approaches: Perspectives from the natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and cultural studies are interlinked, and the approaches systematically combine the structuring significance of the category ‘gender’ with the impact of other lines of social difference such as ‘class’, ‘ethnicity’, ‘race’ and ‘generation’.

The series provides a platform for perspectives that centre on the radical questioning of the heterosexual social order based on a binary gender system, whilst reflecting on the underlying power relations.

The aim of the series is to publish academic contributions that address questions concerning gender constructions and gender relations in culture, society and academia, and to provide impetus for further debate. The series is aimed at anyone interested in topics relating to women’s and gender studies from the academic and wider scholarly communities – students, lecturers and researchers. At the same time, the publications are also of interest to those working in practical contexts that critically engage with the gendered nature of culture, technology, science and society.
