Project D - Audio playback

Perceptive optimizing of the sound presentation in spatially distributed loudspeakers

The quality of audio, multi-media and speech signals presented via loudspeakers is inevitably influenced by the acoustics of the room. This will often impair the fidelity of spatial signals and may lead to a reduction of speech intelligibility. Especially the reduced intelligibility may pose a serious problem for hearing impaired listeneners even when the level of hearing impairment is low or medium.

Using a spatial distribution of loudspeakers and suitable pre-processing algorithms, the aim of this project is to optimize the sound presentation in such a way that - instead of the acoustic characteristics - the perceptively relevant signal characteristics are optimally represented at the ear of the listener.
