Gra­dua­te Sym­po­si­um 'Ca­re­er Paths of Ma­ri­ne and Cli­ma­te Sci­en­tist­s'

Ob­jec­tives

The gra­dua­te sym­po­si­um aims at in­tro­du­cing dif­fe­rent job perspectives in marine and climate sciences in their wi­dest sen­se.
It fo­cu­ses on ca­re­er paths outside academia in­clu­ding for ex­amp­le jobs in in­dus­try, ad­mi­nis­tra­ti­on, con­sul­ting and jour­na­lism.

Tar­get group

The sym­po­si­um ad­dres­ses ear­ly ca­re­er sci­en­tists who are in­te­rested in broa­de­ning their ho­ri­zon and get­ting new ide­as for their own ca­re­er de­ve­lop­ment.

Pro­gram­me

The pro­gram­me in­clu­des 15-20 min lec­tu­res by in­vi­ted pro­fes­sio­nals fol­lo­wed by 10 min for ques­ti­ons and dis­cus­sion. Spea­kers are as­ked to speak about their job and about the ca­re­er steps they took to get this po­si­ti­on. Fur­ther time for dis­cus­sion with the pro­fes­sio­nals is gi­ven du­ring the cof­fee and lunch breaks. In ad­di­ti­on, the­re are "round-ta­ble" dis­cus­sions for groups with a li­mi­ted num­ber of 10 par­ti­ci­pants with 1-2 pro­fes­sio­nals for in­depth dis­cus­sions on spe­ci­fic to­pics.

Fee

5 EUR for mem­bers and alum­ni of the in­sti­tu­ti­ons or­ga­ni­zing the sym­po­si­um
10 EUR for all others

Most of the costs of the gra­dua­te sym­po­si­um will be co­ve­r­ed by the gra­dua­te schools and PhD pro­gram­mes and through spon­sor­ship. The fees co­ver a small pro­por­ti­on some of the ex­pen­ses.
Lunch as well as drinks and snacks du­ring the cof­fee breaks are in­clu­ded in the fee. The fee must be paid in one of the coordinator's offices 20 days before the symposium starts.

Re­gis­tra­ti­on

Re­gis­tra­ti­on for the next sym­po­si­um will open on 1 March 2020. Mem­bers of the gra­dua­te schools or­ga­ni­zing this sym­po­si­um will be in­for­med and re­min­ded via e-mail by the co­or­di­na­tors of their graduate school.
