Projects are key instruments for bringing about extensive and far-reaching innovations in the university and implementing the changes in everyday working life. In the context of the necessary administrative modernisation, projects enable complex issues to be dealt with across departments.

Central project management
For projects and major projects in central administration and service areas, overarching standards and defined processes serve to ensure and improve quality during the planning and implementation phases of projects.
As the point of contact for all project-related concerns of colleagues in central administration, we focus on the planning phases of the project with guidelines.
The applicable standards encourage early examination of the processes involved so that project and process thinking are supported and linked.
Project management and coordination
For overarching major projects from the Vice President for Administration and Finance project portfolio, we assume the role of project management or project coordination on behalf of the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
This means that complex projects that require a particularly high level of coordination benefit from the fact that the departments involved can concentrate their resources on the content of the work packages.
As part of project management or project coordination, we fulfil the usual PM duties in close cooperation with the commissioning party and project team as well as the steering committee, usually for the entire project life cycle, most recently for example here:
- establishing a method for active recruitment in academia
- expanding the CampusCard (library card, guest student card, staff ID card)
- administration information portal – focussing on processes
Individual project support and advice
We support colleagues in successfully applying project management standards to their projects and driving forward their plans in a structured way from concept to completion.
As part of providing you with project support and advice, we are your sparring partners for initial considerations and planning for initiation as well as for specific concerns during implementation. We bridge the gap to process optimisation and offer target group-specific training.

Project portfolio management
The Vice President for Administration and Finance project portfolio brings together the ongoing and planned projects in central administration, including service areas. The Vice President for Administration and Finance Project Portfolio Board (VP-V-PPB) has regular meetings to strategically select projects and major projects for the portfolio based on specified criteria. Projects should be prioritised with a view to strategic goals, scarce resources should be deployed in a targeted manner and conflicts between projects should become apparent at an early stage.
We form the link between the specific projects and the portfolio board and its members. In this context, one of our tasks is to manage the project portfolio based on regular dialogue with the project managers and to communicate developments.
