Promotion of mid-level academic staff
Support for mid-level academic staff in the "Research/Internationalisation" area of School I - School of Educational and Social Sciences
Support for early career researchers in the field of "Research/Internationalisation" at School I - School of Educational and Social Sciences
On 14 February 2023, the Dean's Office of School I established a pool to support early-career researchers in the field of research/internationalisation. This pool is funded by School I (subject to the availability of funds). Only proposals that meet the criteria listed below will be funded (scholarships for qualification or other projects are not eligible for funding within this framework).
The Dean's Office decides on the proposals. Proposals should be sent to:
School I - Office (in-house mail), A02 1-109 or by email to (complete documents in one PDF file)
1. who is eligible to apply?
All staff employed in research and teaching at School I who are not university lecturers are eligible to apply. In particular, academic staff in qualification positions (doctoral and postdoctoral researchers) and Teaching staff for special tasks are eligible for funding.
2 When can proposals be submitted? What deadlines apply?
Proposals can be submitted to the Dean's Office of School I at any time. These should be received by the office at least six weeks before the funding deadline. If applications are submitted at shorter notice, it may not be possible for the Dean's Office to pass a resolution in time and funding may not be approved. Retroactive deanery resolutions cannot be brought about. For funding in the 2023 financial year, please submit your application by 31 October 2023.
3. what is funded? What can be applied for?
Proposals will be approved,
- which serve to support active participation (e.g. own lecture, poster presentation as first author) at an international scientific event (conference, congress, workshop, etc.). In this case, applications can be made for grants towards travel expenses (including accommodation costs) and participation fees.
- for the publication of research findings in open access format. Here, a share of up to EUR 600 can be covered if the scientist is the first author of the article in early career phases.
Passive participation in international conferences can also be funded for Teaching staff for special tasks, but requires an additional brief statement of reasons from the supervising university lecturer.
4. what application amount can be authorised?
The maximum funding limit granted by School I is EUR 350 for events in other European countries and EUR 500 for events in non-European countries.
Before submitting an application, it must be checked and explained whether there are other possibilities for financing or partial financing (e.g. via the DAAD, the department or from project funds).
The maximum funding granted for publications in open access format is EUR 600 in order to close the funding gap that cannot be covered by grants from the DFG and the library for open access articles(https://uol.de/bis/forschen-und-publizieren/open-access/open-access-publikationsfonds).
5. which documents must be attached to the proposal?
- Proof of active participation in a conference by means of an official confirmation of acceptance of the scientific contribution, e.g. in the form of an invitation letter from the organiser or a notification of acceptance of the presentation.
- An overview of the event (e.g. programme booklet, conference proceedings, flyer).
- Proof of first authorship for open access publications is provided in the form of an official confirmation of acceptance of the publication, e.g. in the form of a letter from the publisher/editor of the journal. Proof of the fees incurred must be provided.
- A comprehensible detailed overview of the costs incurred (travel expenses, accommodation costs, etc.), if necessary with proof (e.g. in the case of participant fees).
6 What is the further procedure?
The FK office will immediately inform the applicant, the supervising university lecturer and the respective institute office of the Dean's Office's decision. The approved amount will be budgeted to a financial centre to be designated by the Institute after the trip has taken place. The costs/expenses are to be settled from this account as part of an authorised business trip. No other settlement is possible. Further binding information on the settlement of travel expenses is available at
