Enrolment procedure according to priorities

In order to ensure equal opportunities for students in the allocation of places on courses, the Institute of Educational Sciences has decided to use a prioritised registration procedure (lottery procedure).

In the prioritised registration procedure, places on courses (seminars, tutorials, etc.) are allocated at random, taking into account priorities and defined conditions (e.g. subject semester).

One advantage of this procedure is that students have a longer period of time to select the desired courses. Directly after publication of the course offer, students have the opportunity to indicate their priorities for the courses of individual modules and adjust them if necessary. It is therefore no longer necessary for all students to register at the same time.

To which modules do the regulations apply?

The modules in Educational Sciences for which School I is responsible are:
a. the compulsory modules in the area of specialisation with a school-based career goal (Annex 3b of the Bachelor's Examination Regulations):
biw210 - Socialisation - Education
biw215 - Teaching and Learning
biw220 - Psychological Foundations
biw225 - Research Methods
The regulations do not apply to the compulsory elective modules in Annex 3b of the BPO.

b. the compulsory/compulsory elective modules in the field of educational sciences of the degree programmes M.Ed. Grundschule, Hauptschule/Realschule, Gymnasium and Special Needs Education programmes:
biw305 - Diagnostics, Prevention and Intervention
biw310 - Fundamentals of Initial Teaching for Special Needs Education
biw315 - School Development
biw320 - Differences and Heterogeneity
biw325 - Inclusion
biw330 - Media literacy and digitalization
biw335 - Pedagogical Action in Primary Education
biw340 - Pedagogical Action in Secondary Education

They do not apply to the modules of the basic didactic qualification. These are organised by the subjects involved.

Registration procedure

1. review of the course programme:

After the School I course programme has been approved, it is published in Stud.IP (usually at least 2 months before the start of the course period).
You can view the modules offered on your degree programme in the course directory in Stud.IP. (It is important that you select the appropriate semester in the selection field on the left-hand side).

2. selection of modules / courses

You select which modules you would like to take in the next semester in accordance with the examination regulations or study plan.
- You can find the examination regulations at: uol.de/studium/pruefungen/
- You can find the current study plans for your degree programme at: uol.de/studium/studienangebot
- You can find information on the educational science curriculum at: Regulations on the Educational Science Curriculum

Important: If your course of study differs from the study plan or you are completing a part-time study programme, please note the participation requirements for the respective modules. The participation requirements can be found in the module descriptions.

3. enrolment for the courses

Lectures: As there is usually no restriction on the maximum number of participants for lectures, registration is usually carried out using the chronological registration procedure.
In exceptional cases, however, the number of places in the lectures may be linked to the capacities in the seminars of the modules and may therefore be limited in terms of participants (e.g. biw210 Socialisation - Education - Education). In this case, places are allocated by the "lottery procedure" described here. Please pay attention to the corresponding information in the "Registration rules".

A maximum number of participants is set for all other courses(seminars, tutorials, colloquia) (usually 40 participants in the Bachelor's degree programme; usually 25 participants in the Master of Education).
Registration for these courses takes place via the registration procedure according to priorities (lottery procedure).
In some modules, participation in seminars, tutorials, etc. is linked to participation in the lectures of the current or previous semester. Please note the"enrolment rules" specified inStud.IP.

4. automatic allocation of places

If the number of students registered for a course exceeds the maximum number of participants, places are allocated at random (lottery procedure).
When allocating places, priority is given to students who are studying in higher semesters than the study plan for this module or who make use of the hardship provision (see below).
Students for whose semester the module is intended have a significantly higher probability of being allocated a place than students from lower semesters.
Please refer to the "enrolment rules" in Stud.IP (see below) for the times at which the module places are allocated.

5 Subsequent registration for courses / changing courses

Once the course places have been allocated via the prioritisation procedure, you have the option of changing courses within a module if participation capacity permits. This is usually possible in the first four weeks after the start of the course period of the respective semester.
Important: Immediately withdraw from courses that you will not be attending.

Waiting lists

Registration as a participant in the waiting list of a course does not entitle you to participate in the course.
Please refrain from making enquiries to the lecturers in this regard.
The quantitative teaching standards at the C.v.O. University of Oldenburg regulate the maximum number of participants permitted. As a rule, a maximum of 40 students may participate in courses in Bachelor's degree programmes; in Master's degree programmes, the number of participants is generally limited to 25 students. In exceptional cases, courses may deviate from these requirements with the approval of the study committee.

*Notes on the enrolment rules

Below we explain how you can interpret the "enrolment rules". The enrolment rules specify the technical admission requirements for the courses, i.e. the conditions that must be met in order to participate in the place allocation procedures. These enrolment rules are summarised in so-called "enrolment sets".

a) Where can I find the application rules?

You will find the registration rules at the end of the "General information" on the event

b) What are the rules and what do they mean?

Registration is possible from (...) to (...):
During this period, you can register for the courses or the allocation procedure.

- A fixed number of places are allocated in the courses:
The course has a limited number of participants

- The places in the relevant courses will be allocated on (date) at (time):
At the specified time, places will be allocated via the prioritisation procedure (lottery).

- Further places may be made available via waiting lists:
Priorities not considered will be added to the waiting list of initial requests, if applicable

- This rule applies from (date, time) to (date, time):
Indicates the period in which the following rules apply

- At least one of the following conditions must be met for enrolment :
- Degree is Master of Education (Special Education)
- Degree is Master of Education (Gymnasium)
- Degree is Master of Education (Hauptschule and Realschule)
In this case, you must be enrolled in one of the specified degree programmes in order to participate in the allocation procedure; it is possible to make a further specification here, e.g. degree is Master of Education (Gymnasium) and subject is German and subject semester is at least 1

- Registration for a maximum of 1 course from the registration set is permitted:
Only one course from this registration set will be allocated.

-Registration is only permitted for participants of the course: (course number, title, semester):
Participation in the allocation procedure requires participation in the course mentioned.

- The following groups of people are given preference in the allocation of places:
Groups can be defined here whose priorities should be given preferential consideration in the allocation of places (e.g. students in the higher semesters)

Regulations for so-called "hardship cases"

The procedure outlined below refers to the modules/events in the area of Educational Sciences modules/events, insofar as these are the responsibility of the Institute of Educational Sciences (all modules labelled "biw").

When allocating places, students with a so-called "hardship reason" are given priority.
Students who can prove a hardship reason are entered on an anonymised list in Stud.IP and given priority in the allocation of places in the registration procedure according to priorities (lottery procedure).
Early enrolment in the course or enrolment after the automatic allocation of places has expired will not (no longer) take place.

Criteria and proof for a "hardship case"

  • Serious long-term illness or disability
Proof: e.g. current certificate from the doctor stating the duration of the illness, severely disabled person's pass
  • Caring for a child up to the age of 14 in your own household.
Proof: e.g. birth certificate of the youngest child
  • Caring for close relatives (parents, parents-in-law, spouse, partner, siblings or children)
Proof: e.g. certificate from the health insurance company about the care and the effort to be made
  • Students of a cooperative subject at the University of Bremen
    Proof: e.g. enrolment certificate
  • Active participation in the committees of School I, the Institutes of Education, Special Needs Education and Rehabilitation or Social Sciences
  • Important! An academic appointment is not considered a case of hardship

Application

An informal proposal must be submitted by email to
. Please attach a file with scanned or photographed evidence (see above) to your email. The submitted evidence will of course be treated confidentially and will be deleted immediately upon receipt.
Proposals must be submitted no later than 3 days before the allocation of event places (exact date can be found in the registration rules).

There is no general entitlement to consideration of the hardship application; it depends, among other things, on the available capacities in the courses.

Bringing forward master modules

The procedure outlined below refers to the modules/events in the area of Educational Sciences modules/events, insofar as these are the responsibility of the Institute of Educational Sciences (all modules labelled "biw").

On proposal, students of the corresponding Bachelor's degree programmes can take Master's modules early and complete module examinations of up to a total of 30 credit points.
