Three lecturers from School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences have received the school’s own ‘Digital Teaching Award’ in recognition of their achievements in university teaching during the digital winter semester of 2020/21. In doing so, the School of Medicine recognises their commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic, which students rated as outstanding. First prize goes to PD Dr Veysel Ödemis, teaching coordinator in the subject of Anatomy; second prize goes to Sebastian Spanknebel, M.Sc., teaching coordinator at the Karl Jaspers Clinic in the subject of Psychiatry, whilst the third prize goes to Dr Lena Ebbers, research assistant in the Department of Neurogenetics. In October 2020, the School had honoured three lecturers for their digital teaching for the first time for the summer semester.
“With the Digital Teaching Award, we are recognising outstanding teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, we wish to highlight the exemplary ways in which our lecturers have supported our students’ learning processes in a motivating and engaging manner during this challenging situation,” explains Dean of Studies Prof. Dr Karsten Witt. In addition to the award winners, he also highlighted the teaching of Prof. Christiane Thiel, Professor of Biological Psychology, and Dr Katrin Janetzky, a lecturer in neurology, both of whom were also nominated by the students.
Last year, the student bodies for Medicine and Psychology had drawn up a joint set of criteria, which was used to select the award winners. All students on the degree programmes in Medicine, Molecular Biomedicine and Neurocognitive Psychology had been invited to nominate lecturers who, in their view, had particularly excelled in their teaching during the 2020/21 winter semester. The prizes are worth 500, 200 and 100 euros
