The UMCG was founded in 2005 as a joint initiative of the University of Groningen and the Academic Hospital Groningen (AZG). The UMCG is one of the largest hospitals in the Netherlands and one of the largest employers in the north of the country. More than 10,000 employees work in patient care, are involved in medical training or conduct cutting-edge research focussing on healthy and active ageing.
