Tutorials on Patient-Centered Research Methods (TuMpFs)

Our TuMpFs are back! These „Refreshers” sessions essentially cover the same material as the introductory sessions in the 3rd semester. This means they can be used by students, doctoral candidates, and other early-career researchers to review the material. In addition, there are further in-depth tutorials on a variety of topics.

The in-person sessions of the tutorials will take place whenever at least 5 people have registered in a timely and binding manner via StudIP (including the courseware group) and have completed the mandatory prerequisite online phase. 

Please note that only TuMpFs 1 & 2 (Epidemiology 1 & 2), “Student Peer Review,” and “Besser Suchen mit PubMed” can be taken as part of the PE offerings in the WiSe 2026/2027.

Advanced courses of Epidemiology and Biometry

Student Peer Review: once per year (WiSe)

This course builds on the data analysis project and is intended for medical students in their third year and beyond. Over the course of six 90-minute sessions, we will discuss representative examples from the final reports, identifying opportunities for improvement and how to apply these insights to advanced research projects and publications. The various sessions cover the following topics in sequence: abstract, introduction, general methods, statistical methods, results, and discussion. Depending on the needs, basic methods can also be reviewed or expanded upon. 

EbM Quickies: once per year (SoSe)

This course is intended for medical students in their fourth year or higher and medical doctoral candidates who already have a basic understanding of evidence-based medicine. In each 90-minute session, we will discuss examples of recent abstracts or other sections from current publications with clinical relevance. 

Methodology seminar Epidemiology and Biometry 

During the winter semester, we meet every other Wednesday in Room V03 1-A103 to discuss our own research, methodologically relevant topics, and presentations. Participants include department staff—particularly doctoral students—as well as collaboration partners and students completing internships or qualifying theses in our department.
