The 12th International Conference on Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering (ICMRE) was organized by Andreas Rauh (head of the research group Distributed Control in Interconnected Systems (DCIS)) at the Department of Computer Science of the Carl von Ossietzky Universität Oldenburg.
Established as a distinguished international academic platform, ICMRE has been bringing together researchers, engineers, academicians, and industry professionals since its inauguration in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2015. Following events were hosted in Nice, France (2016), Paris, France (2017 and 2018), and the University of Valenciennes, France. More recently, the conference took place in Rome, Italy (2019), and Barcelona, Spain (2020), ICMRE shifted to an online format, in collaboration with the Southern University of Science and Technology, China from 2021 to 2023; further events took place in Milan, Italy (2024), Lille, France (2025).
The conference aims to stimulate interdisciplinary cooperation and create a space to discuss the emerging trends and challenges in mechatronics and robotics engineering with a specific focus on early career researchers. Key areas of ICMRE cover a broad spectrum including autonomous systems, robotic applications of artificial intelligence, control systems, sensors and actuators, human-robot interaction, and intelligent automation.
During this conference, which was attended by approx. 60 persons from all regions of the world, a special keynote lecture on “Building Bridges: Collaborating for Inclusion and Innovation in Engineering” was given by Friederike Bruns (DCIS) with an emphasis on the role of women in control engineering and the need for the acknowledgement of diversity in intercultural and interdisciplinary research teams.
Finally, our congratulations go to Lisa Wünderlich (DCIS) who received the best paper award for her work on “Disturbance Estimation for the Control of Web Tension in Electrode Calendering”.
