Installation of the VMware Horizon Client

The installation file for the software can be obtained for PC systems on the website desktop.uni-oldenburg.de/ and for smartphones or tablets via the respective App Store / Play Store.

The IT services provide support for the use of the software under common Windows versions (10 and higher) as well as with the use of the current versions of OS X, iOS and Android. A client for use with Linux distributions is offered on the official VMWare site, unfortunately we cannot offer support for this. Below we show the installation sequence for Windows 10, starting after downloading the installation file and executing it.

In the first window, links to the data protection agreement and licence conditions are displayed. Click on the button 'Accept and install' to carry out the installation.
After the installation, a message window is displayed, which can be closed by clicking the 'Finish' button.

This is followed by a note indicating that the computer must be restarted before it can be used. The button 'Restart now' triggers an immediate restart, while 'Restart later' allows you to exit the installation without restarting.
The desktop now shows the icon 'VMware Horizon Client'.
Double-click on the 'VMware Horizon Client' icon to open a 'New Server' window the first time it is called up. Clicking with the mouse opens the following input window.
In this window, enter 'desktop.uni-oldenburg.de' as the name of the connection server and finally click on the button 'Connect'.
In the login window that opens, enter your user name consisting of four letters and four numbers in the form 'abcd1234' and your password in the Password field. The domain information remains unchanged. Finally, click on the button 'Login'.
A window opens with the working environments available to you in the VDI. As a rule, this is a pool called 'Windows 10'. Click on it to start a virtual PC, which you can use after a short time.
