Installation of the Omnissa Horizon Client

The installation file for the software can be obtained for PC systems on the website desktop.uni-oldenburg.de/ and for smartphones or tablets via the respective App Store / Play Store. For Windows 11 devices, the installation can be done from the software kiosk, if available on the computer.

IT services provide support for the use of the software under common Windows versions (10 and higher) as well as with the use of the current versions of OS X, iOS and Android. A client for use with Linux distributions is offered on the official Omnissa website, but unfortunately we cannot offer you support for this.
Below we show an illustration of the installation sequence for Windows 10, starting after the installation file has been downloaded and executed. (Here for the VMware Horizon Client, which has since been replaced by Omnissa Horizon Client. The installation procedure is analogous for the Omnissa Horizon Client).

In the first window, links to the data protection agreement and licence conditions are displayed. Click on the 'Accept and install' button to complete the installation.
After installation, a message window is displayed which can be closed by clicking the 'Finish' button.

This is followed by a note that the computer must be restarted before it can be used. The 'Restart now' button triggers an immediate restart, while 'Restart later' allows you to exit the installation without restarting.
The desktop now shows the 'VMware Horizon Client' icon.
Double-click on the 'VMware Horizon Client' icon to open a 'New server' window the first time it is called up. Click to open the following input window.
In this window, enter 'desktop.uni-oldenburg.de' as the name of the connection server and then click on the 'Connect' button
In the login window that opens, enter your user name consisting of four letters and four numbers in the form 'abcd1234' and your password in the Password field. The domain information remains unchanged. Finally, click on the 'Log in' button.
A window opens with the work environments available to you in the VDI. This is usually a pool with the name 'Windows 10'. Click on it to start a virtual PC, which you can use after a short time.
