Three friends want to make their dream of opening a jazz bar a reality. Shadowy corners, old wooden tables, subdued lighting – and, right in the middle of it all, the charming sound of a saxophone. The sound fills the room and enchants the guests. Time stands still. But creating this unique atmosphere takes preparation. A run-down property seems perfect for the job. All it needs is a fresh coat of paint, and then nothing will stand in the way of the opening.

Clear the stage for ‘Jazz Stories’ – a newly developed musical theatre project by students at the University of Oldenburg. Combining music, drama, humour and seriousness, 13 music students from the University of Oldenburg, under the direction of Volker Schindel, developed the jazz theatre piece in just a few months, and it is now being staged. The project is also supported by musicians from the specially formed musical theatre jazz band, under the musical direction of Christian Kappe.

On 5 December 2023, a short excerpt from the production was shown as part of the AUFTAKT event marking the university’s 50th anniversary in the university’s Audimax.
