Enriching exchange at the Schooljazz Meeting Northwest

Five school big bands from Oldenburg, Rhauderfehn and Wilhelmshaven presented their skills in the auditorium of the Institute together with the student band "Funkystition" and impressively opened the GLOW Northwest Jazz Festival.

Five school big bands from Oldenburg, Rhauderfehn and Wilhelmshaven presented their skills in the auditorium of the Institute together with the student band "Funkystition" and impressively opened the GLOW Northwest Jazz Festival.

The initiative for the project came from artistic staff member Stephan Schomaker, for whom it is extremely important that the Institute of Music is perceived as an open house. In addition to wonderful performances, which were introduced with a street parade, there were numerous opportunities for exchange between students and pupils, ensemble leaders, teachers from the schools, heads of department and lecturers from the university.

Philipp Pumplüm (Jazzmusiker Initiative Oldenburg) and Christian Kappe (head of the university big band) hosted the evening.

The applause from the completely full auditorium, a very good sound and great stage lighting motivated the performers in a very special way. The school teachers not only emphasised their students' musical talents, but also made declarations of love to their academic appointments. The student body thankfully provided a cosy festival atmosphere with a self-organised drinks sale.
