Funk and soul band
Management: Stephan Schomaker
The fourteen-strong, good-humoured ensemble puts its heart and soul into creating its own musical arrangements of well-known songs, mainly from the funk and soul genres. Multi-part vocals, effective brass sections and a groovy rhythm section provide the positive vibes for "Funkystition". Rehearsals take place regularly on Tuesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall of the Institute of Music.
Chamber Choir
Management: Silja Stegemeier
The chamber choir is aimed at singers with previous experience in choral singing and in dealing with grades who would like to work on more demanding, classical choral literature. In a short audition, the choir director listens to the voice and gives short sight-reading passages.
Musical Ensemble
Management: Volker Schindel, Markus Hanse, Jonathan Strehle
The University of Oldenburg's musical ensemble rehearses every Monday in the auditorium of the Institute of Music under the direction of Volker Schindel, Markus Hanse and Jonathan Strehle. Together we are working towards an end-of-semester show, which will be a colourful evening full of musicals with ensemble pieces and smaller casts.
University Orchestra
Management: Rida Murtada
The Orchestra of the University of Oldenburg is a symphony orchestra with around 50 members, which develops and performs orchestral works ranging from Bach to contemporary works under the direction of Rida Mutarda.
uniChoir
Management: Silja Stegemeier
The uniChor is a general university choir alongside other more specialised choirs at the university and in the city.
Pop and jazz choir
Management: Susanne Menzel
The pop and jazz choir works on various pop and jazz arrangements. It is directed by Susanne Menzel and rehearses on Mondays from 6.00 to 8.00 pm in the assembly hall (A11 0-009). Vocal training through singing, jazz harmony and rhythm, groove and correct phrasing play a central role here. All students who are enthusiastic about singing can take part; non-music students can take part by arrangement and if there are places available in the choir. New singers (especially tenor and bass) are very welcome.
Popular music
Management: Christian Kappe
Ensemble playing popular music (instrumental) offers practical experience for those who are completely new to jazz/popular music or are at an advanced level and may also want to improvise a little, although improvisation is not a must. Participation is also very good preparation for the "Ensemble Conducting" course, which is part of the Master's programme. Participation is also the best practical training on the instrument. We want to play together as much as possible.
Rock People
Management: Stephan Schomaker
The thirteen-member, rock-oriented collective was founded in the summer semester of 2025. genre-specific vocal techniques, complex guitar/bass structures to virtuoso drum textures are significant. Students in this programme independently combine projects between indie rock and the hardest metal styles. Rehearsals take place regularly during the semester on Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chamber Music Hall of the Institute of Music.
