"Biblical-theological concepts of family in the Old Testament" will be presented by Dr Kim Strübind, Protestant theologian at the University of Oldenburg, on Thursday 26 February at 7.30 pm in the Oldenburg Synagogue (Leo-Trepp-Straße 17). Strübind's lecture marks the start of the "Generation - Tradition - Family" lecture series organised by the Leo Trepp Teaching Centre and the Intercultural Jewish Studies department at the University of Oldenburg.
The family in the Old Testament sense goes far beyond the core of a modern family. It not only describes the coexistence of several generations under one roof, but also formulates important political-theological insights and characterises the concept of the "family of nations" and the designation of Israel as the "people of God". In his lecture, Strübind shows the reasons and social causes for basic biblical metaphors of human coexistence and clarifies the ideas that the Old Testament associated with the stories of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
Dr Kim Strübind teaches as a lecturer at the Institute of Theology and Religious Education at the University of Oldenburg. He was the administrator of the chair for Old Testament Studies for several years and is also an academic language teacher for Hebrew and Judaic topics. Strübind is the author of numerous essays on the hermeneutics and religious history of the Old Testament and is also a founding member of the advisory board of the Leo Trepp Teaching Centre of the Oldenburg Synagogue.
