Seven of the University’s projects are receiving funding under the ‘Innovative Teaching and Learning Concepts: Innovation Plus’ programme run by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science (MWK). 330,000 euros will be made available over the next two semesters to further improve teaching in the long term.
The funded projects are in the fields of educational sciences, linguistics, economics, natural sciences, sports sciences and medicine. Several of the funded projects in Oldenburg focus on the use of digital tools in teaching and learning. The aim is for students not only to use these tools, but also to help shape them themselves.
One of the projects, for example, focuses on so-called ‘serious games’ – games that are not only intended for entertainment but also convey information and education. Other projects focus not only on subject-specific training but also on students’ communication skills and social engagement. German studies students are given the opportunity to study and exchange ideas with students from a Czech university.
In total, the MWK is providing around three million euros for 70 projects at universities in Lower Saxony during the 2020/21 funding period. The ‘Innovation plus’ programme is designed to provide impetus for further development in teaching and to enable innovations that can be sustainably embedded within the universities. Experience reports and materials from the projects are to be made freely available later via an internet portal as so-called Open Educational Resources (OER).
