Seven of the university's projects are being funded in the programme "Innovative teaching and learning concepts: Innovation plus" programme of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science (MWK). 330,000 euros will be available over the next two semesters to further improve teaching in the long term.
The funded projects are located in the educational sciences, linguistics, economics, natural sciences, sports sciences and medicine. Several of the funded Oldenburg projects focus on the use of digital tools in teaching and learning. The aim is not only for students to use these tools, but also to help shape them themselves.
One of the projects, for example, deals with so-called "serious games", i.e. games that are not just for entertainment, but also convey information and education. Other projects focus on students' communication skills and social commitment in addition to their subject-specific training. German studies students are given the opportunity to learn and exchange ideas with students from a Czech university.
In total, the MWK is providing around three million euros for 70 projects at universities in Lower Saxony in the 2020/21 funding phase. The "Innovation plus" programme is intended to provide impetus for further development in teaching and enable innovations that can be sustainably anchored at universities. Experience reports and materials from the projects will later be made freely available as open educational resources (OER) via an internet portal.
