"Excellent research in the field of wind energy" - this was certified on Thursday by Stephan Weil, Minister President of Lower Saxony, to ForWind, the centre for wind energy research at the universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen. Weil was a guest on the Oldenburg university campus to find out about the research infrastructure located here together with SPD members of state parliament Hanna Naber and Ulf Prange and SPD member of parliament Dennis Rohde.
They inspected the Laboratory for Turbulence and Wind Energy Systems (WindLab), the centrepiece of which is a unique turbulence wind tunnel. The facility makes it possible to reproduce and analyse the interaction of realistic turbulent wind flows on the one hand and wind turbines and wind farms on the other in the laboratory.
"Wind energy is not only an absolutely crucial topic for Lower Saxony, its expansion is also of national interest. In order to be able to utilise the potential, we are heavily reliant on the findings of wind energy research. The University of Oldenburg and its partners have been setting standards here for many years. This radiates to the whole country," emphasised the Minister President during his visit.
ForWind bundles wind energy research in the north-west and brings together 30 institutes and working groups from the universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen. ForWind thus forms a unique research network in Germany and covers a wide range of scientific topics. The research focus is on engineering sciences, physics and meteorology, Computing Science and economics.
