STORM & MOUSE
With STORM & MOUSE, the previous HPC cluster, EDDY, has been replaced by a more powerful system for computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Financing was secured through two projects acquired by ForWind-Oldenburg under the project leadership of Assistant Professor Laura Lukassen and with the involvement of the Department of Scientific Computing at the University of Oldenburg.
The RE-HPC project was approved on 1 December 2021 under reference number ZW7-85186744 and is funded by the Investment and Development Bank of the State of Lower Saxony (NBank) and the Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) of the State of Lower Saxony. The funding is provided under the REACT-EU start-up grant scheme (ERDF guideline‘Innovation through Universities and Research Institutions’in accordance with paragraph 2.1.2 ‘Establishment and expansion of cutting-edge research infrastructures’) as part of the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The collaborative project ‘MOUSE – Multiscale and multiphysical models and simulations for wind energy’ was approved on 1 July 2022 under funding reference number 03EE3067A. Funding is provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) via the Project Management Agency Jülich (PTJ).
In both projects, the CFD cluster is to be used by several research groups for simulations and data analysis in wind energy research.
