Introduction to HPC
A central high-performance computing (HPC) cluster, operated by IT services, is available to members of the University of Oldenburg. The technical specifications of the system currently available are described in more detail under ‘HPC Facilities ’.

- I’d like to use the HPC cluster – who should I contact?
To use the HPC cluster, you first need to apply for an account, which is usually set up within 1–2 days. - I now have an account – what do I do next?
Firstly, you should have a look at the documentation on the HPC Wiki, which provides detailed answers to many questions about using the cluster. - Where can I find further information?
You’re welcome to contact the staff at Scientific Computing, or ask your colleagues in the research group, for example. There’s also a regularly updated range of courses available. In addition, almost everything you need to know can be found in the Wiki, where there is a more detailed FAQ for all HPC users. - Which programmes can I use on the HPC cluster?
The list is long and can be displayed on the cluster using the command “module available”.
However, our list on the wiki provides a much better overview. - My favourite programme isn’t installed on the cluster – what should I do?
In this case, please open a ticket by emailing , providing further information and your requirements regarding the relevant software.
