Specificity and typology of 'small' literatures in East-West European comparison
On 17 and 18 June, the Institute of Slavic Studies and the Institute of Dutch Studies will host an international workshop entitled "Specifics and Typology of 'Small' Literatures in East-West European Comparison" with literary scholars from Belarus, Poland, Ukraine, England and the Netherlands. Focussing on Belarusian and Dutch literature, the workshop aims to compare different 'small' literary systems from a field-theoretical perspective. The focus will be on the question of the extent to which the respective developments exhibit typological similarities that can be grasped as specific features of 'small' literatures and that can be used to adequately describe these literatures.
At the centre of the workshop is Belarusian literature, which has been largely neglected in Western European literary studies and literary historical discourse, and which will be used as an example to take a first step towards interweaving the differently pronounced and differently developed research discourses in East and West. The literary scholar Kees van Rees (Tilburg) has been engaged for the key lecture.
The organiser of the workshop is Prof. Dr. Gun-Britt Kohler. Further details can be found on the following pages:
The organiser would like to thank the Universitätsgesellschaft Oldenburg for its financial support. ![]()
