You usually start a new subject or a new degree programme in the first semester and are therefore subject to the same admission requirements and selection criteria as first-year students.

Application and enrolment

In your application or enrolment, you indicate that you are applying for a change of subject and state your desired subject or your new combination of subjects.

In the two-subject Bachelor's programme, you can apply for two subjects, even if you only want to change one.

If you are only applying for one new subject, please select the option "Change of subject - no second subject" for the second subject in the online application. You will then be asked to indicate the "old" subject you wish to keep.

After completing the allocation procedure you will receive a notification, which will be made available to you electronically in the application portal. You will be informed by email when the notification is available.

If you do not receive admission for your new admission-restricted degree programme, you will automatically remain enrolled in your previous degree programme.

Please note that you must re-enrol for the next semester as usual by transferring the semester fee on time.

An application or enrolment in a higher semester is possible if you have from your current or a previous degree programme (at this or another university) creditable achievements can contribute.

To apply for the summer semester, you must have at least 22 credit points and at least 52 credit points for the winter semester. Your achievements will be assessed after you have submitted your application.

For the winter semester, you can apply for the 1st and a higher semester at the same time. For the summer semester, only one application or enrolment in a higher semester is possible.

As part of the application process, please complete the form Appendix to the application for placement in the higher subject-related semester and upload the relevant evidence (study progress, grade certificates, course certificates, etc.) of your existing achievements.

RECOGNITION OF CREDITS ALREADY EARNED

At the University of Oldenburg, achievements are only bindingly recognised after enrolment.

For the allocation procedure in subjects with restricted admission or enrolment in subjects without restricted admission, the Examinations Office provides a preliminary assessment of the creditable achievements. This serves the Admissions office as a basis for the placement in a corresponding higher semester. Binding recognition by the respective examining board will only take place once you have been enrolled in your new degree programme.

If you only wish to have individual modules recognised, but do not wish to be placed in a higher semester, you can also apply for recognition at the Examinations Office after enrolment.

Students from other universities who wish to continue their studies at the University of Oldenburg in the same subject or degree programme will be placed in the same or next higher semester.

Your application or enrolment takes place online in a higher semester.

Change of university plus change of subject or change of degree programme

If you would like to combine the change of university with a change of subject or change of degree programme, the procedure depends on whether you

• want to start from scratch (see Change of subject and change of degree programme in a first semester) or
• whether you bring creditable achievements with you (see Change of subject and change of degree programme to a higher semester).

Transfer students are also students who wish to transfer from the University of Oldenburg to another university. Please enquire there about the applicable conditions and the procedure.
