The change in detail
The change in detail
- For admission-restricted degree programmes, your application will take part in an allocation procedure i.e. a selection takes place.
- For admission-free degree programmes can be guaranteed a place if the necessary admission requirements are met - you enrol directly.
The application or enrolment takes place online within the set deadlines.
When choosing a new subject or degree programme, please note that you may be bound to a particular subject (e.g. if you are applying with an entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, a vocational qualification or an international higher education entrance qualification).
Change of subject and degree programme to a first semester
You usually start a new subject or a new degree programme in the first semester and are therefore subject to the same admission requirements and selection criteria as first-year students.
Application and enrolment
In your application or enrolment, you indicate that you are applying for a change of subject and state your desired subject or your new combination of subjects.
In the two-subject Bachelor's programme, you can apply for two subjects, even if you only want to change one.
If you are only applying for one new subject, please select the option "Change of subject - no second subject" for the second subject in the online application. You will then be asked to indicate the "old" subject you wish to keep.
After completing the allocation procedure you will receive a notification, which will be made available to you electronically in the application portal. You will be informed by email when the notification is available.
If you do not receive admission for your new admission-restricted degree programme, you will automatically remain enrolled in your previous degree programme.
Please note that you must re-enrol for the next semester as usual by transferring the semester fee on time.
Change of subject and degree programme to a higher semester
You may apply for or enrol in a higher semester if you have transferable credits .
To apply for the summer semester, you must have completed at least 22 credit points, and for the winter semester, at least 52 credit points. Your academic achievements will be assessed once you have submitted your application.
For the winter semester, you may apply simultaneously for the 1st semester and a higher semester. For the summer semester, you may only apply for or enrol in a higher semester.
Application or enrolment
When applying or enrolling, you must state that you are requesting a change of subject and specify your preferred subject or new combination of subjects.
In the two-subject Bachelor’s programme, you can apply for two subjects, even if you only wish to change one subject.
If you are applying for only one new subject, please select the option ‘Change of subject – no second subject’ for the second subject in the online application. You will then be asked to specify your ‘old’ subject, which you wish to retain.
As part of the application process, you will need to complete the form ‘Appendix to the Application for Placement in a Higher Semester’ and upload the relevant supporting documents (academic transcripts, grade certificates, course certificates, etc.) relating to your existing academic record.
Once the allocation process , you will receive a decision, which will be made available to you electronically via the application portal. You will be notified by email when the decision is available.
If you do not receive admission to your new degree programme with restricted admission, you will automatically remain enrolled in your current degree programme.
Please note that you must re-enrol for the next semester as usual by making a bank transfer of the semester fee by the deadline.
RECOGNITION OF PREVIOUS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS
At the University of Oldenburg, academic achievements are only officially recognised after enrolment.
For the allocation process in subjects with restricted admission or for enrolment in subjects with no admission restrictions, the Examinations Office provides a preliminary assessment of the credits that can be transferred. This serves as the basis for the Admissions office to place you in a corresponding higher semester. Binding recognition by the relevant examining board is only granted once you have enrolled in your new degree programme.
If you only wish to have individual modules recognised, but do not wish to be placed in a higher semester, you can also apply to the Examinations Office for recognition after enrolment.
Change of university
Students from other universities who wish to continue their studies at the University of Oldenburg in the same subject or degree programme will be placed in the same or next higher semester.
Your application or enrolment takes place online in a higher semester.
Change of university plus change of subject or change of degree programme
If you would like to combine the change of university with a change of subject or change of degree programme, the procedure depends on whether you
- want to start from scratch (see Change of subject and change of degree programme in a first semester) or
- whether you bring creditable achievements with you (see Change of subject and change of degree programme to a higher semester).
Transfer students are also students who wish to transfer from the University of Oldenburg to another university. Please enquire there about the applicable conditions and the procedure.
