Lower Saxony Science Award

Background

The Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture (MWK) has been awarding the Lower Saxony Science Prize in various categories every year since 2007. Primarily dedicated to honouring young scientists, a fourth category also recognises the achievements of students.

Prize for students

In category IV of the Lower Saxony Science Prize, students are honoured "who have distinguished themselves through special social or interdisciplinary commitment in the university context". This includes, for example

  • an addition to the range of courses on offer, e.g. through self-organised workshops or lecture series
  • social commitment
  • voluntary work
  • Family, culture, sport or student self-administration

Applications are therefore possible in two sub-categories, based on either

  • excellent academic achievements or
  • personal commitment to the community, social, cultural, family or academic environment.

However, there is no harm in combining both categories.

The individual and group prizes are endowed with €3,500 each.

We are looking for students who have not yet completed their degree and are not about to do so.

The application documents include

  • Letter of motivation
  • Meaningful curriculum vitae
  • Enrolment certificate
  • Proof of personal commitment

Procedural note

An application submitted via Stud.IP will not be sent directly to the Ministry, but will be subject to pre-selection by the Presidential Board of Carl von Ossietzky University. The pre-selection includes up to four applications from individuals or groups of students. The decision on the awards is made by the Ministry of Science and Culture and reported back to the university management.
