Regulations for the extension subject (third subject)

The study of a so-called extension subject corresponds to the study of a third subject in the teaching profession. The credit points to be earned vary depending on the type of school.

Admission to an extension subject is possible for students who are enrolled in the Master of Education programme (only applies to students at the University of Oldenburg or the University of Bremen) or for graduates of a teacher training programme.

For ALL students of an extension subject, a tuition fee of 150.00 euros per semester must be paid in addition to the semester fees.

Prospective students who would like to study an extension subject

Admission to a supplementary subject is now only possible if you are enrolled on the Master of Education programme or have completed a teacher training degree. The earliest possible application can be made at the same time as applying for the Master of Education programme.

The following application procedures apply:

  • Applications are only accepted for the winter semester
  • Only school-type-specific subjects are available
  • For subjects with restricted admission, applicants have a lower chance of being admitted
  • Subject-specific admission requirements (entrance examination, proof of language skills, etc.) must be met
  • The cooperative subjects French, Geography and Spanish cannot be chosen as an extended subject

Enrolment for the 2026/2027 winter semester

The application for an extension subject is possible online until 15 October.
