Ihklas Osman (Omdurman/ Sudan): "Feminist Activism during the Sudanese Revolution and Current Developments"
Online lecture January, 27 2021, 16.15 pm
Feminist and women's groups and networks made up the vast majority of activists during the Sudanese revolution in 2018/19 that led to the fall of the former regime. They were present protesting in the streets and on social media. Tea and food sellers, as well as women artists, doctors and lawyers supported the insurgents and participated in mass sit-ins and political negotiations.
Prof. Ikhlas Osman, professor at the Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman/ Sudan, gives us a first-hand account of the role of female*/feminist activists and the enormous power of solidarity, but also of sometimes harsh consequences and backlashes.
