Climate change, scarce resources, biodiversity loss – these global challenges have  put sustainability at the core of science-based solution approaches. It is therefor that the University of Oldenburg defined sustainability as one of its three guiding principles and has deeply anchored the subject in its research, teaching and daily operations. Doing so, particularly topics of interdisciplinary work on sustainability issues, excellent research and the knowledge transfer between business and science are addressed. This is how our university became a leading institution in environmental and sustainability research and why already in 2006 the master’s programme “Sustainability Economics and Management” was established: Students are trained at the highest level to become leaders with a sound understanding of economics and a cross-sectional knowledge of environmental and social issues. By promoting professional networking, expanding future-oriented areas of research and providing application-based training for future sustainability specialists, the University of Oldenburg contributes to solving ecological and social problems.

Our goal is to educate creative, independent and multidisciplinary individuals that are capable of constructively, critically, and future-orientedly addressing the environmental, social and economic issues of the 21st century.
