End of election campaign and start of staff council work

Dear colleagues,

The constituent meeting of the new Staff Council took place on Thursday, 20 June 2024. The Chair of the election committee, Daniel Aldag, who was present in full, opened the meeting. After the election of the secretary and election committee, the election committee left the meeting to great applause from the new Staff Council.

The Chair and deputies were then elected. The result of the open vote was

Thomas Schneeberg was elected Chair and Martin Niemeyer was elected first deputy. Further deputies were elected in the following order: Dr Dobrinka Genevska-Hanke, Silvia Kreysing, Nicolas Marken, Wiebke Fischer - each with a vote result of 15:0:0, i.e. unanimous.

At this meeting, the members of the Staff Council were also unanimously released from their duties and the allocation of tasks was discussed.

All members of the new Staff Council are looking forward to working together and will start their first regular meeting next Tuesday.

For almost seven years, the ver.di group at the University and the Mittelbau initiative have been working together in the Staff Council as a united list with representatives of ProSignal. In the process, we have realised this: The main asset for managing our day-to-day business, dealing with strategic challenges, and shaping new working conditions lies in the experience of all Staff Council members.

From technical staff and administration to academic managements, teaching and research, we are familiar with the current developments, and the colleagues working in these areas. Our insights and working contexts are as diverse as our competencies! It is important to us to equally address issues of all employees and to work towards a future-oriented University with commitment and competence.
