The discussion about strategies for sustainable development and their implementation is becoming increasingly important in politics, society and the economy. This is also reflected in the large number of newly emerging and well-established business initiatives such as the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) or the UN Global Compact. The complexity of the problematic situations, in which environmental, social and economic factors play a role, requires executives with corresponding problem-solving skills and an interdisciplinary perspective.
For graduates of the Masters in Sustainability Economics and Management, this results in a wide range of job opportunities in companies, especially in sustainability, environmental and communication departments or in special projects, such as the introduction of environmental management systems in large companies.
But also start-ups, small and medium-sized enterprises, especially those from the steadily growing environmental and renewable energy industry, are looking for specifically trained personnel. Consultancy or reviewer activities are another broad professional field. There is also an increasing demand in various political or public institutions, associations, international organizations, NGOs and public authorities at national, EU or global level. The situation is similar in science, in which more and more sustainability-oriented research projects are promoted.
In addition, the Career Service of the University of Oldenburg (website in German only) supports all students in the search of internships or start their careers. For this purpose, it brings together students and graduates with regional and national companies and institutions.
For students of the SEM-Master, above all the counseling services (career planning, career entry, application strategies) and placement offers (internships, theses, scholarships, job offers) are of interest. But as well further qualification offers (lectures and trainings to career start, aplications, communication etc.) can increase the chances on the job market.
In order to prepare the students of the SEM Master for upcoming challenges in future activities, the chair of Prof. Dr. Bernd Siebenhüner offers the course-related "Practical Forum on Sustainability". As part of this series of events, practitioners and experts report on their own experiences as well as requirements and challenges from the field of sustainable development. The event series aims to provide insights into various potential occupational fields for graduates of the SEM masters program.
In addition, the Practical Forum on Sustainability should serve as an orientation guide for occupational development and career planning. The concept of the Practical Forum on Sustainability therefore presents the diversity of potential opportunities in the field of sustainability for graduates and offers a broad spectrum of professional fields.
The Practical Forum on Sustainability starts at 6 pm (s. t.) and takes place in room A01 - 0 - 007.
