"Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist, but that's just peanuts to space." (Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

Despite the unbelievable size of space there is quite a lot to explore. In our Solar System are in addition to the large objects (our Sun and the planets) a large number of smaller celestial objects, which can be observed and analyzed. In the theoretical Astrophysics it is not only possible to investigate all known objects, but also to postulate new ones.

For students who would like to specialize in astrophysics, there are a lot of different courses with an experimental as well as a theoretical orientation. The courses range from basic lectures like "Astrophysics" up to advanced observational or theoretical courses. The Astrophysics lecture can be attended by students from all disciplines who are interested in the subject. An example of a theoretical course is the lecture "Accretion Discs". For the observational courses there is for example an excursion to Nice to the 1m-telescopes of the C2PU.
