Conditions of use
1. which questions can I ask via the email enquiry form?
Dealing with information is part of the "daily business" of the library, regardless of whether it concerns factual information, literature questions or organisational or technical information.
Your questions are welcome!
Our advisory service includes the following services:
- We provide information on all aspects of library use.
- We will help you to find and use the important, study-relevant contact points and services at the university.
- We provide assistance with literature research in catalogues, bibliographies and databases.
- We advise you on searching for information on the Internet.
- We will give you tips on obtaining literature via interlibrary loan if the literature you require is not available in Oldenburg libraries.
- We will tell you who to contact at the University Library.
2. in what form and to what extent are answers and information provided? What can I expect from the email information?
Depending on your question, we will help you to help yourself: we will show you how to access our information services, such as catalogue searches or database searches, based on your question.
We also provide you with brief information, e.g. factual information and up to five references depending on the topic. As a rule, full texts are not sent by email, as this may violate copyright regulations. However, we will of course advise you on the regulations governing interlibrary loans and document delivery.
The more information you give us about your question, the more precisely we can recognise your need for information and provide qualified answers.
3. how quickly will I receive a reply via email?
You will receive an answer to your email enquiry as soon as possible, but at the latest within 48 hours Monday to Friday.
If you would like advice more quickly, please call us on 0441/798-4444 or visit us on site at the information desks in the library.
4. how is my data handled in the email enquiry?
The library undertakes to expressly protect the data stored as part of this service and to respect the privacy of users.
The logs of email enquiries are stored anonymously and are only used for internal analysis purposes. These logs are the sole property of the library and are not made accessible to anyone else. They are deleted after a maximum of 24 months.
It is important for the library to analyse the content of the enquiries in order to be able to supplement other information services. If necessary, only quantitative statistics or anonymous quotations are published externally. IP addresses, email addresses, telephone numbers or even personal names contained in the logged enquiries are not published.
Further information on data protection at the University of Oldenburg can be found on the following website: uol.de/dism
5 What happens to my criticism or praise of the library?
We are pleased when you give us re-registering students about the library and our services. Your opinion flows into the library's complaint management and is used as an impulse for changing or establishing our services.
We will endeavour to provide you with an answer or statement within a maximum of 14 days, depending on the topic.
6. who will process my enquiry?
Your enquiry will be answered by librarians from the library's reference service. All staff are information specialists and use the following for their research
- the University Library's collection of reference works, books and journals as well as its databases,
- Internet sources, which are selected according to subject-specific and qualitative criteria,
- the expert knowledge of many members of staff who work in the various facilities at the university.
- If the reference staff are unable to answer your enquiry themselves, it will be forwarded to an expert at the University Library or another university institution for processing.
