Book Fairies

At the start of the winter semester, books suddenly start appearing on the Oldenburg University campus. Books that have been left in seemingly random spots around the campus…

It seems as though a fairy godmother is wandering around the campus, leaving books for the university’s visitors. Anyone who finds one of these books is allowed to keep it, read it once, twice or three times, put it on their bookshelf or leave it somewhere else on campus. And so, quietly and secretly, stories make the rounds – stories of creatures burrowing in the earth and birds singing in the trees, of the secrets of landscapes worth protecting, and of people who stand up for them.

October: ‘Schreiber’s Naturarium’ by Jasmin Schreiber

“Join biologist, illustrator and author Jasmin Schreiber on an enchanting journey through the wonders of nature. In this beautifully designed nature book for young and old alike, she guides us through a whole year full of fascinating phenomena! The entire book was designed and illustrated by the author herself. As we leaf through the pages, we encounter enchanting depictions of bustling bees, hopping hares, ancient willows and mountains that have watched over the valleys below them for millennia.”

New here?

Through these books, the Book Fairy hopes to spark an interest in nature conservation, climate change and sustainability amongst curious young readers. She is supported in this by the Climate Protection Management team at the University of Oldenburg, which is already implementing many projects designed to protect nature and the climate.
