Practical workshop
Practical workshop
Practical workshop on Wednesday, 29 October 2025 from 2-4 p.m. s.t.
How to deal with radicalisation and right-wing extremism among young people?
The figures in the latest report on the protection of the constitution are once again startling: The potential number of people on the extreme right has risen by 10,000 in the past year, with right-wing extremist youth groups in particular becoming increasingly popular. How should and can professional educational practice counter the phenomenon of young people being radicalised to the extreme right?
The aim of the practical workshop is to provide educational staff who are confronted with young people expressing and/or positioning themselves on the (extreme) right or even turning to the far-right scene with initial pointers and options for action.
As is usual in the practice workshop, the topic will be approached together with people from practice and academia on the basis of a specific case and options for action will be developed together.
Dr Christian Pfeil, coordinator of the civil society exit and distancing programme "Distance - Ausstieg Rechts", will provide the academic perspective in a short keynote speech.

Practical workshop on Wednesday, 14 May 2025, 2-4 p.m. (s. t.):
"Who can say that properly - without an accent?"
What people say is judged more by its external form than by its actual content. What sounds like an accent is judged differently depending on the origin of the accent - even in educational contexts. The idea of the only correct use of language plays a major role here. It is therefore important to shed light on the extent to which the idea of "perfect language" and possible "deviations" from it ensure that people are included or marginalised - and what this has to do with us.
The upcoming practical workshop "Pedagogical professionalism and diversity awareness in the migration society" would like to address this question together with people from practice and academia. As usual in the practice workshop, the topic will be approached on the basis of a specific case and options for action will be developed together.
Dr İnci Dirim, Professor of German as a Second Language at the University of Vienna, Institute for German Studies and Institute for Teacher Education, will provide the academic perspective in a short keynote speech.

Practical workshop on 17.02.2025, 14-16 h s.t.
"How do I address racism without reproducing racism?" (repeat date)
Educational professionals are repeatedly confronted with racist behaviour and statements in their everyday lives and are (co-)involved accordingly in the context of power relations. It is therefore important to address the topic of "racism" in the classroom, for example, and to discuss and reflect on it both preventively and proactively as well as reactively. But how can this be done without (unconsciously) reproducing racism and reinforcing existing stigmatisation?
The upcoming practical workshop "Pedagogical professionalism and diversity awareness in the migration society" would like to address this question together with people from practice and academia. As usual in the practice workshop, the topic will be approached on the basis of a specific case and options for action will be developed together.
Dr Süleyman Kanat, lecturer at the Institute of Educational Sciences / CMC - Centre for Migration, Education and Cultural Studies at the University of Oldenburg, will contribute the academic perspective in a short keynote speech.
