Critical Talk: Institutional racism in the police and justice system
27.05.2025 - 6 pm - cine K Oldenburg
On 20 April 2025, Lorenz K. was fatally injured by shots fired by police officers. His violent death shook many people and raised profound questions: Would a white male in a similar situation have experienced the same thing? Are female police officers sufficiently prepared to maintain proportionality of means when deployed? And how does institutional racism affect trust in the police and justice system?
Numerous studies and reports show: The death of Lorenz K. is not an isolated case. Rather, it is an example of a structural problem that urgently needs to be named, analysed and discussed.
As part of a critical talk, we would like to discuss the circumstances of the case, how state institutions deal with violence and racism and the impact on affected communities. This will be based on scientific analyses, political experiences and personal perspectives.
